A look inside New York’s first offshore wind farm

America’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm is officially powering up the Empire State. South Fork Wind – a joint venture between Ørsted and Eversource – is New York’s first offshore wind farm, providing clean energy to ~70,000 homes.

Meet the people powering up New York

Behind every South Fork Wind turbine is an American worker. From electricians, to ironworkers, to engineers, South Fork Wind has created jobs for hundreds of local New Yorkers, working with labor unions, family-owned businesses, and research institutions from Long Island to Wellsville. Hear directly from the people whose work has brought New York’s first offshore wind farm to life.

We owe South Fork Wind’s success to hundreds of workers – those on vessels, in factories, on worksites. It’s been a joy to work with New Yorkers from all walks of life to build the state’s first offshore wind farm, and I’m excited to see where this goes next.

Boosting industry, locally and nationally

South Fork Wind holds a special place in the development of offshore wind in both the Empire State and the United States. In New York, local businesses like Haugland Energy Group, Elecnor Hawkeye, and Roman Stone built South Fork Wind’s infrastructure. Meanwhile, businesses from Texas to Connecticut manufactured and assembled components used in South Fork Wind, making America’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in federal waters a nationwide effort.

Projects like South Fork Wind rely on strong cooperation and coordination to reach the finish line. It’s been extremely rewarding to help local businesses in New York work with companies across the country to make America’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm a reality.
